Week 2: Special Edition Blog Post - Edyta Stepien

Edyta Stepien’s craft would be she utilizes sight specific installations, large-scale video, macro camera lenses, an aquarium and miscellaneous materials. Edyta would put random objects such as glitter, sand, moss, grass and etc. into the aquarium and either use a hair dryer or move the tank around to create the motion that is represented in her video.
Edyta Stepien’s composition is that she arranged the piece so that it looked like something that would occur in nature with natural and synthetic materials. She placed objects in the aquarium to best represent what she imagined natural disasters to look like. Her video was configured on a massive wall, which was projected by a screen projector giving it this overwhelming and massive quality that grabs the viewer.
Her concept would have to be she’s trying to depict natural forces such as earthquakes, storms, floods and strong winds. She’s trying to show the viewer what it’s like to be in the middle of these natural disasters since they occur frequently and are often disastrous. Edyta Stepien wants to show the different changes that the environment undergoes with this simulation she’s made into a video.
